French culinary traditions originated many years ago in Paris. To this day, this favorite city of tourists offers everyone a taste of the incredible variety of specialties that are offered literally everywhere.
An interesting feature in Paris are the restaurants. Prices in the same restaurant can be different, depending on which part you are in - at the bar, inside or at a table outside. Another fact that surprises tourists is that water is extremely expensive, and in some places 300 ml of water can be offered at the price of 500 ml of wine.
Ready-made food is available at every turn throughout the city. It is not one of the biggest specialties in Paris, but rather follows the universal supply and demand typical of the rest of the world. Doneries, pancakes, waffles and ice cream are also available at the street stalls.
Another option for a quick meal are sandwiches - baguette and ham, sometimes garnished with cheese. They are available in every diner. Another option is to buy them from a nearby supermarket and prepare them by hand - the quality of the products in Paris is undeniable.
It is typical for Paris to have an exotic restaurant in every neighborhood. Depending on where you are staying, there will definitely be a Chinese restaurant, a sushi bar or an Arabic restaurant next to you.
Ordinary restaurants in Paris offer the typical French cuisine. It is very tasty, but also quite expensive. There are also regular restaurants offering different types of snails, oysters, seafood, etc.
Among the things to try in Paris are bagels, croissants, ham, cheese and flan. Everything else is typical French cuisine, which can be tried anywhere in the country.
Onion soup and freshly prepared steak tartare, for example, are among the most popular food by tourists.
The main feature that should not be forgotten is that the French drink wine with everything. During your stay in Paris you can't help but taste more than one or two wines. Their taste and aroma will undoubtedly captivate you.
Flan
Necessary products:
For the dough: 170 g white flour, 60 g cold butter, 1/3 tsp. salt, 50 ml of cold water
For the cream: 500 ml fresh milk, 2 fresh eggs, 80 g sugar, 3 tbsp. starch, 1 vanilla powder
Method of preparation: The dough is kneaded from the indicated products. First, the butter is rubbed into the mixed flour and salt, then the water is added spoon by spoon. When the mixture becomes a ball, no more water is added. The dough is wrapped in foil and stored for about an hour in the refrigerator.
The cream is prepared by putting the milk and half of the sugar on the stove. Until they turn, beat the eggs with the remaining sugar until white. Add the starch and beat with a mixer. Once the milk boils, remove from the heat and flavor with vanilla.
The egg mixture is added in a thin stream, beating with the mixer at high speed. The result is returned to the pot and boiled to a medium-thick cream, which is separated from the walls of the vessel with stirring.
The oven is heated to 180 degrees.
Roll out the cooled dough enough to cover the bottom and make about 1.5-2 fingers on the board of a tray with a diameter of 20 cm on the baking paper. It is transferred to the pan and sticks to the walls. Excess paper is removed. The bottom is drilled with a fork so that it does not swell. Pour the vanilla cream on top and flatten with a spatula.
Bake the flan first on a medium grill, and when the cream inside hardens and the end of the dough starts to brown, move one level higher. Bake for about an hour or until a brown crust forms.
When ready, the flan is cooled to room temperature, then stored in the refrigerator for at least two hours. Serve well chilled.
