Pumpkins are almost doubling this fall. In wholesale markets, orange vegetables reach 50 stotinki per kilogram, and the violin type is the only one that can be found cheaper - about 35 stotinki per kilogram.

Last year, the prices of white pumpkins started at 20 stotinki per kilogram, and at the beginning of the season this fall, the vegetables could not be found for less than 50 stotinki per kilogram, according to an inspection by Novinar.

Although slight, there is an increase in the values of violin-type pumpkins. They have been rising steadily for several years, and from 2010 until today this type of pumpkin has risen in price by 10 stotinki per kilogram wholesale.

The type of violin is the most commonly eaten pumpkin, which is bought not only for direct consumption, but also as a main ingredient for purees and other dishes.

Farmers say pumpkin yields have not changed in the last four years. The biggest offer this year is at the markets in Svilengrad, Haskovo, Plovdiv, General Toshevo.

In Plovdiv, they report lower demand for pumpkins since the beginning of this fall, but expect consumption to increase as the holidays approach in December.

Bulgarians are mainly interested in vegetables, but Romanian customers are also becoming more and more.
