Varicose veins are a fairly common disease and its etiology is complex: heredity, lifestyle, overweight, tight shoes, socks, pants or the cause can be a serious illness.

Varicose veins are not just a cosmetic defect - as some believe - but a very serious problem of the cardiovascular system. Both women and men suffer from this disease. Most often, varicose veins appear on the lower extremities. Although persistent, the disease is affected by the use of drugs prepared from natural products, used in folk medicine. They can replace expensive drugs and be made at home.

One such natural product is wild or also called horse chestnut. It contains many useful vitamins - C, B1, K, A and substances such as saponins, tannins, coumarin, starch, pectins, carotene, thiamine, glucosides, flavonoids, mucus, globulin, lecithin, fatty oils, organic acids, minerals, macro and trace elements, including silver, calcium, nickel, iron, boron, barium, zinc, iodine, chromium and selenium. Due to this rich set, horse chestnut is used to treat various diseases.

There are different options for the preparation of natural remedies from chestnuts. Different parts of chestnut are used to make infusions, decoctions, ointments, juices: the fruit, the peel of the fruit, the flowers, the bark of the tree, the leaves. The fruits must be well ripened or properly dried and are most useful in September and October. In the spring the bark of the tree is collected, and from May to September the leaves of the wild chestnut.

One of the applications of chestnuts in folk medicine is the treatment of varicose veins. They improve the elasticity of blood vessels, blood circulation in the legs, have anti-inflammatory, analgesic effects, reduce swelling in the limbs, relieve heaviness in them. When applying the treatment, it is desirable to give up smoking, alcohol and spicy foods.

For the first recipe we offer, only the peel of the chestnut fruit is used: 50 g of the peels, which are 3-3.5 mm thick, are poured with half a liter of brandy and left for 2 weeks, periodically shaking the container in which they are placed. The tincture is taken 3 times a day in 30 drops, which are dissolved in 30 ml of water. Take half an hour before meals. After 1 week the same amount is drunk 4 times a day, and after another week the whole amount is drunk once. The tincture is taken for a month and a half.

Five very ripe, large chestnuts are mashed as finely as possible. Weigh 5 tablespoons of them and place in a dark glass bottle or jar. Pour 1 liter of vodka and the mixture stays 7 days in the dark. If the bottle is light, it can be wrapped in black paper. After the 7th day, strain. Half an hour before a meal 30-35 drops of the tincture are dropped into a tablespoon of water and drunk.

This infusion can also be used externally. The night before going to bed, after contrast showers on the lower extremities, which tonify the blood vessels and after drying, the feet are smeared with the infusion and allowed to absorb into the skin.

Medicinal tincture can be obtained from 20 crushed chestnuts, which are placed in a large jar and poured with 1 liter of brandy. The jar is closed with a cap and left for 40 days at room temperature, stirring with a wooden spoon from time to time. The liquid is filtered and stored in a glass container. As sediment from the chestnut extract appears at the bottom, shake the container well before use. The affected areas are smeared 1-2 times a day and allowed to absorb into the skin.

The officer from the Bulgarian army and later a famous and successful folk healer Petar Dimkov advised to use chestnuts, which were collected in September, when he thought they were most useful.

Here are some of his recipes for relieving and treating varicose veins. 100 g of chestnuts are cut into very small pieces and poured with strong homemade brandy in a ratio of 1:10. It stays for 7 days and the affected areas are lubricated until relief occurs. Again strong brandy and wild chestnuts are mixed, but this time in a ratio of 2:10 and stay 14 days, then used to apply several times a day on varicose veins.

Another remedy for varicose veins is the ointment, which, depending on the season, can be prepared from the fruit or the color of the chestnuts. 1 tbsp crushed chestnuts are poured with 1 tbsp oil and left in the dark for 12 days, then boiled in a water bath for 30 minutes. The resulting ointment is applied to the affected areas.

A remedy for varicose veins can also be made from chestnut flowers. Ointment can be prepared from 5 ground chestnuts or 5 tablespoons of wild chestnut flowers, then pour half a liter of vegetable oil. The oil mixture is boiled for 1 hour in a water bath. Once cooled, strain. The ointment is applied to the areas with varicose veins 2-3 times a day.

Mix the flowers of chestnut and vegetable oil in a ratio of 1:10 and stay 10 days in the dark. The oil mixture should then be boiled for a few minutes, then poured into a glass one-liter bottle and topped up with 70% ethyl alcohol. Varicose veins are smeared every day.

Chestnut bran is also used in the fight against varicose veins. When cool water and a little apple cider vinegar are added to them, a slurry is obtained, which is applied to the problem areas. Wrap in a towel for half an hour. During this time you should not move, but be at rest.

And here are recipes that do not contain brandy, alcohol and oil. 2 tablespoons of a mixture of 100 g of finely chopped and dried chestnuts, 30 g of mint leaves, 80 g of sprigs of white mistletoe and water pepper, and 50 g of yarrow stalks are added to 700 ml of boiling water and boil for 5 minutes. The decoction is covered with a lid and left for 1 hour. Strain and drink 200 ml 3 times a day before meals.

We offer you a decoction that is prepared in the same way and drunk in the same amount. It requires 100 g of dried wild chestnut bark, 30 g of oak bark, 50 g of sorrel roots, 80 g of willow bark and as much thistle fruit.

The effect of the treatment of varicose veins with chestnuts occurs from 1 to 4 months. If the disease is at a very advanced stage, recovery is unlikely to occur, but there will be at least relief of symptoms.

You may be allergic to horse chestnut - then you should stop treatment. It is contraindicated in diseases of the kidneys, liver, hypotension, menstrual disorders, pregnancy and lactation. Wild chestnut should be used with caution because it is poisonous in larger quantities.
