Arabic cuisine, known for the variety of spices it uses and its centuries-old traditions, is rightly renowned as one of the most impressive. The way food is prepared, the products used and the dietary habits in the Arab world are closely linked to the Islamic religion.
However, each country has its own traditional dishes, culinary techniques, products and typical spices in the design of the menu, which depend mainly on the natural resources of the area. Here is what is important to know about the national dishes of some of the Arab countries:
1. Morocco
Couscous is considered to be the national dish of this country, famous for its architecture and beautiful beaches. To prepare it, a special dish called a keskes is used, without which real Moroccan couscous would not be authentic. The very name of couscous comes from the sound that is heard during the cooking of semolina grains. Unlike in Bulgaria, where we mostly make breakfast for children from couscous, in Morocco couscous is considered a main dish and is combined mainly with lamb and chicken.
2. Lebanon
It is believed that the word appetizer originates from this Arab country, which is found here in the form of miniature meat or vegetable portions served with hummus or other puree. Typical spices in Lebanese cuisine are garlic, lemon juice and mint, the latter being used in the preparation of almost all traditional refreshing drinks.
3. Iraq
It is considered traditional to prepare various shish kebabs and especially those made of lamb, which are called shawarma.
4. Jordan
The most popular dish is mansaf, which is stewed lamb, garnished with rice, bread and milk sauce.
5. Sudan and Egypt
Both countries are characterized by the preparation of medamas, which is quite spicy or frankly hot mashed beans with peppers and onions.
6. Yemen
There is no typical Yemeni dish, as almost all Arabic versions of the daily menu can be found here.
7. Syria
The Syrian hosts specialize in making bulgur meatballs and their culinary skills are among the most revered by bachelors who have decided to look for a bride.
