The Union of Bulgarian Beekeepers warns that this year there will be almost no real honey in the domestic markets, as the yield is very low due to the rains and bad weather.

The import of Chinese low-quality honey will reach its peak this year, because the domestic production is not enough to meet the needs of the market in our country. The main ingredients in poor quality honey are glucose and sugar syrup.

There will be almost no acacia or linden honey this year, most beekeepers in the country are adamant. According to them, if someone offers acacia and linden honey, it is either from last year or will not be at all.

The Union of Beekeepers is adamant that this year's honey yield is 50% lower than last year. Most producers prefer to export their honey abroad, as it is much more expensive abroad, because Bulgarian honey is considered one of the highest quality in the world.

80% of Bulgarian honey is sold on European markets. Its purchase price in a coin is relatively high - between BGN 4.50 and 5 per kilogram wholesale.

This year, too, strong imports of honey in Bulgaria are expected from China and Argentina. Both countries widely use GMOs in their agriculture, which affects the quality of their products.

Imported honey has undergone strong processing until it acquires a commercial appearance, which makes it very difficult to sugar - this is one of the most important features of quality honey.

Although its quality is lower, the consumption of honey in our country has doubled according to the chairman of the Stara Zagora company Lipa - Todor Ivanov.

The expert claims that in recent years Bulgarians have eaten between 600 and 700 grams of honey in one year.

However, this is far from the amount of honey that Western Europeans eat in a year. There, the average amount reaches several kilograms in 1 year.

According to the beekeepers, this is because in Bulgaria the sale of honey is not encouraged through large advertising campaigns, as is the practice in the countries west of our country.
