Only a week after Agriculture Minister Dimitar Grekov said the price of bread would not rise, producers in the industry demanded a gradual rise in subsistence prices.

In recent months, there has been a significant rise in the price of wheat and flour on commodity exchanges.

According to Antonina Belopitova of the Sofia Commodity Exchange, during the winter season prices will rise due to warehousing costs. Experts say that the trend of rising wheat prices will continue after the winter, because the value of the product is determined mainly in Russia and Ukraine.

The data show that this year the two countries have sown less wheat than last year. Therefore, the harvest is expected to be weaker, and this may lead to more expensive bread for the end user in our country.

According to Hristo Tsvetanov from the Institute for Agricultural Strategies and Innovations, in these two countries more than 250 million decares of autumn crops are usually sown, and this year the sown areas are 10% less.

In Bulgaria, much less is sown - about 10 million acres, so when in Russia and Ukraine there is a reduction in area, it means that in any case the price of wheat will be higher.

According to the bread producers, the probability that the bread will become more expensive in the coming months is very small and for the time being the industry does not intend to change its price.

Veselin Vassilev, who is the commercial director of a bakery company, explained that the main components that form the price of bread are stagnant, which will inevitably lead to a higher price of the product over time.

If the price of bread does not rise, the difference will have to be borne by the bread producer and from there he will start to accumulate debts to both suppliers and financial institutions.

According to bread producers, many companies in the industry will face bankruptcy if a strategy for a gradual increase in the price of bread is not developed.
