Domestic grain producers have announced that due to the record amount of rainfall that has poured over our country in recent months, it is possible that bread will rise in price by about 10 cents.

Heavy rainfall, humidity and a lack of warmer temperatures in April and May have ruined much of this year's harvest.

Grain producers say that in some regions of Northwestern and Southern Bulgaria rains have fallen above the norm, forcing farmers to treat wheat with preparations to save part of the harvest.

Producers say the rains this spring may affect the quality of bread and its price, with prices expected to rise by between 15% and 20%.

The price increase will be necessary because substitutes will have to be used in the bread.

The new wholesale price of bread is expected to be around 52 stotinki, and its final price to the consumer will be 10 stotinki higher than the current one.

The village of Dabnitsa in Gotse Delchev also states that the meteorological conditions this year have affected their strawberry production, and due to the rains it is possible that the harvest will be three times smaller.

According to experts, the cause of the ruined strawberries is the nylon that farmers have planted under the plantations.

The farmers of the village say that the fruits they pick this year are rotten, as the production in the village of Gotse Delchev is ecological and most of the farmers do not use chemicals to influence the type and quality of the fruits.

Ramush Chaush from the village of Dabnitsa says that last year a Dutch company, which took care of the marketing of strawberries, helped in its production. But this year, its Dutch partners have withdrawn due to the unfavorable fruit market.

Ramush says that since then he has been selling the fruit himself, with most of his production being sold in the town of Bansko.

The unfavorable weather conditions this spring also affected the cherries in Kyustendil, which, although they appeared earlier this year, did not look very appetizing.
