White bread is expected to jump by between 5 and 9 stotinki in May due to the expected rise in natural gas.
The rise in the price of natural gas will have a major impact on large bakeries. Small ovens, which rely mainly on electricity for bread production, will be less affected.
The Regional Union of Bakers and Confectioners in Dobrich says that large producers will have to raise the value of bread to 7 percent, which is up to 70% of bakers in the country.
In my opinion, the price of bread should or should rise between 5 and 10%, as gas is calculated between 60 and 70% directly in the energy costs of bread production, said bread producer Radoslav Raykov to the Bulgarian National Television.
Most mills also use natural gas, which will lead to a jump in flour prices by half a kilogram. The increase in fuel prices will affect the whole process of bread production.
On average, a Bulgarian household buys 15 loaves of bread a month, which means that they will have to set aside one lev more from the budget for their livelihood, the industry said.
The increase is also necessary due to the expected increase in the price of transport services.
