The study was led by Dr. Katrina Purcell of the University of Melbourne. She compared a fast diet, in which they lost 1.5 kg per week for 3 months, with a gradual diet, where participants lost half a kilogram in seven days.

Surprisingly for the scientists themselves, the rapid loss of extra pounds is more successful in achieving the desired weight. 78% of those on a fast diet achieve their goal and lose up to 15% of their weight. Only 48% of people with more moderate weight loss achieve similar results.
Of course, the new results immediately found critics to refute the good news. They commented that the study did not take into account the durability of the results achieved. According to them, after the experiment, the participants in it quickly regained the lost weight.
