Just as Americans traditionally prepare roast turkey for Thanksgiving, so we slaughter a lamb on St. George's Day, and on the Day of the Dead in Mexico, the favorite dishes of their deceased loved ones are served.
Equally, the Japanese have their own special ones culinary traditions. In this case, it is not a question of how it is served in Japanese, the typical way of the Japanese diet or the typical use of bamboo sticks, namely the close connection between Japanese cuisine and Japanese holidays.
Here are the most important 3 events according to the Japanese calendar and what people consume during that day or period:
1. Feast of the Moon, known as Tsukimi
It is associated with the observation of the autumn full moon, which takes place between August 15 and September 13. It is especially popular in the villages, where at that time the harvest is gathered and people give thanks to the moon. During this period, seasonal vegetables and fruits are served at the table to see what kind of gift the moon has brought to people. Sweet rice, known as dango, is traditionally served and sake, Japanese brandy, is drunk.
2. New Year, which in Japanese is Shigatsu
This is considered the most important holiday, because it is the time when the old year is sent and the new one is welcomed in the hope that it will be more blessed than the previous one. This is also the time for celebrations. For this reason, all festive dishes must be prepared on December 31, so that from 1 to 3 January everyone can have fun. On the Japanese table must attend several traditional dishes, which are served in a special tray called yubako.
3. Festival of the 7 Herbs or the Seven Grasses of Spring
It is celebrated on January 7, when a porridge made of 7 herbs or fragrant herbs with rice is served. The tradition of consuming this dish, called nanakusagayu by the Japanese, has been observed without exception for more than 1,000 years. The herbal dish is prepared to protect relatives and friends from diseases.
4. The period during which the cherries or Hanami bloom
Then all Japanese families go out for a picnic, and in addition to eating their favorite food, they also enjoy the blossoming cherry trees.

Traditional Dishes And Appliances Used In Japanese Cuisine
Every world cuisine prepares its traditional dishes not only with certain products and specific technology, but also with the use of specific kitchen utensils and appliances. For example, Moroccans prepare their couscous in a special dish known as couscous, the Maghreb Islam cooks mostly in a clay pot known as tajine, and in Mexico they prepare their corn tortilla tortillas.
Chinese And Japanese Cuisine - The Main Differences
No matter how advanced our world is, we often succumb to manipulation. To this day, some people do not distinguish between different types of Asian cuisine, which is unforgivable. Perhaps we are more accustomed to putting the denominator of Chinese and Japanese cuisine, which are very different in nature.
Fish And Seafood In Japanese Cuisine
Just as the Islamic religion forbids its followers from eating pork, but allows anything else, so Buddhism forbids the killing of all living things. In Japan, where Buddhism and Shintoism are widely practiced, only a century and a half ago it was forbidden to eat any meat from cloven-hoofed animals.
Japanese Cuisine And Why It Not Only Dries
Although we have Japanese cuisine to be associated only with the world-famous sushi made from raw fish, its variety of different dishes is really huge. Except with dried and rice, which is the basic ingredient of all Japanese dishes, Japan is also known as the largest consumer of seafood.
