Along with the upcoming holidays in December - St. Nicholas Day, Student Holiday, Christmas and New Year, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency is launching large-scale inspections of food products throughout the country.

The aim is to ensure food safety during the holiday season, when the consumption of goods increases. The BFSA said it would ensure food safety during the holidays.

The inspections will start on December 3 on the occasion of St. Nicholas Day. Reservoirs for live fish breeding, wholesale and retail outlets selling fish products will be inspected.

The BFSA will try to limit the sale of unregulated fish and those with an unspecified passage. The advice to consumers who will be looking for fish for St. Nicholas Day is to buy only from legal places.

Fish products whose origin cannot be traced increase the health risk.

Before the Student Holiday, the BFSA inspections will continue. An extraordinary audit will be conducted in hotels and restaurants before and during December 8.

Inspectors will monitor the origin of food products, whether they are stored properly, whether they have the necessary documents guaranteeing their quality, whether the expiration date is observed when offering the goods.

During the Christmas and New Year holidays, extraordinary inspections of the commercial sites on the territory of the whole country will also be carried out. Duty teams will monitor the food that is sold.

In case of suspicion of irregularities, consumers can report by phone 0700 122 99 and on the official website of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency.

The inspectors are ready to respond to the signals and even hope that the consumers themselves will direct them to the sites where food is offered illegally around the big holidays.
