Annunciation, also known in Bulgaria as Blagoets or Blagovets, is one of the largest and most revered Christian holidays, which has been celebrated since the 7th century not only by the Eastern Orthodox but also by the Roman Catholic Church. It is celebrated on March 25.
This is the day on which the Virgin Mary realizes that she has conceived a son who will be called Jesus and will be revered by all the people. This is also the day on which, in addition to Palm Sunday, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church allows the consumption of fish during the 50-day Easter fast. This only happens if March 25 does not coincide with Holy Week, when fasting cannot include fish in its menu.
The Annunciation is not allowed and performing any household activities, as long as they are not necessary. The only exception is cooking, because on every Christian holiday there must be a festive table.
Therefore, not only because of the sufficient free time, but also because of the celebration of the feast itself, the table of the Annunciation occupies a central place in the celebration of this bright day. Then, in addition to fish, pies, cakes and onions are traditionally prepared and wine is allowed.
For this reason, if you still do not know what is prepared and at the same time you want to impress your loved ones, we offer you 2 extremely easy and at the same time very tasty recipes for traditional dishes, served on the holy feast of the Annunciation:
Baked mackerel with aromatic herbs
Necessary products: 4- 5 mackerel, 6 tablespoons olive oil, 2 cloves garlic, a few sprigs of fresh thyme and oregano, the juice of 1/2 lemon, salt and pepper to taste.
Method of preparation:
Clean and wash the fish and in a mortar crush the garlic together with all the other spices. Spread this mixture on the fish and wrap each mackerel in aluminum foil. Bake for about 30 minutes at 180 degrees in a preheated oven.

Necessary products: 1 kg of finished dough, 6-7 onions, 4 tablespoons oil, a pinch of savory, a pinch of paprika, salt to taste.
Method of preparation:
Diced onions are stewed in oil for a few minutes and seasoned with spices. The dough is divided into 2 parts and most of them are placed on baking paper, cut in the shape of the tray in which to bake.
The ends of the dough are pulled up, the onion stuffing is poured and the rest of the dough, rolled out in the shape of a pan, is placed on top. The top dough should completely cover the bottom so that the filling does not come out. The archer prepared in this way is baked at 200 degrees in a preheated oven.
