For this year's St. Nicholas Day, the traditional carp will increase its price by BGN 2 and the fish will be offered in the shops between BGN 6 and 8 on the day of the holiday, Standart writes.

In the fishponds around Blagoevgrad so far no changes in the price values of the fish are envisaged. The carp will be sold at retail for BGN 5.50, and at wholesale - BGN 4.50 per kilogram.

We are forced not to touch the price. Because consumption is shrinking. People have no money. Even live fish traders in Sofia have gone bankrupt in the last year, say fishermen Lydia and Nikola Nikolovi.

Cheaper this year will be the silver carp, whose price per kilogram has dropped to BGN 2.50 wholesale. The fish will be sold at retail for about BGN 3.50 per kilogram.

White grass carp will also be offered on the Blagoevgrad markets at a lower price than usual. Its retail price will be around BGN 5 per kilogram, and its advantage over carp is that it has fewer bones.

The executive director of the Association of Fishery Producers, Yordan Gospodinov, told FOCUS News Agency that carp prices should not go up, as there has been enough production this year.

Fishermen from the country call on the responsible institutions to check the quality of the fish before St. Nicholas Day. Just before the holiday, unfair traders are trying to deceive consumers with the fish on offer.

In connection with the approaching St. Nicholas Day, the municipality of Stara Zagora is organizing a real fish fiesta in the city. The host of the event will be the culinary guru Uti Bachvarov.

The event will take place on the square in front of the municipal building from 11 am.

On December 6, zaralii will compete in the categories of the biggest catch and the most delicious fish soup. Uti Bachvarov, in addition to assessing the culinary skills of the participants, will prepare fish soup according to his recipe.

Approved fish are carp, silver carp and catfish, weighing at least 10 kilograms each.

Although statistics show that Bulgarians consume less and less fish, traditionally it will be present at our tables and this St. Nicholas Day, although it is not exactly carp. And according to the belief, who consumes fish with scales on St. Nicholas Day, will enjoy a full purse next year.
