White oman / Inula helenium L. / is a perennial herbaceous plant with a thick short rhizome with numerous adventitious roots. The stem is erect and grooved, densely short-haired, and slightly branched. The leaves of Oman are consistent, large and unevenly toothed. They are wrinkled at the top and densely fibrous at the bottom.

The baskets reach 8 cm in diameter, several are at the top of the stem and branches. The final colors are lingual, the middle ones are tubular, and all have a golden-yellow color. The fruit seed is four-walled brown, with a long kite. It blooms in July-September.

The white oman grows in moist grassy places, along streams and rivers. It is distributed mainly in the eastern parts of the country and the Danube plain, up to 1000 meters above sea level. It is found in the southeastern part of Europe.

The roots and rhizome of white oman are used for medicinal purposes, which are taken out in spring / in March / or late in autumn / October-November /.

Other studies show that white comfrey also has a good vasoconstrictive effect.

Folk medicine with white oman

Bulgarian folk medicine recommends the use of white oman in people exhausted from deep illness in the form of oman wine. It is an effective means of strengthening the body and improving appetite.

For the preparation of omanum wine, finely crushed rhizome of white oman is mixed with olive oil in a ratio of 1:10. Omani wine is used successfully in urticarial skin rashes, as well as scabies.

Decoction of the roots of white oman used for irritating cough, asthma, bronchitis, upper respiratory problems or as a digestive aid.

Decoction of the flowers of the herb is used for nausea, cough with copious sputum, vomiting. When combined with licorice relieves bloating, gas, vomiting of mucus.

Rinses with a decoction of comfrey or diluted tincture are used for facial and other types of neuralgia; spots on the face and pimples; itching and hemorrhoids; joint pain and itchy rash; scabies, sciatica and rotting wounds; rashes and varicose ulcers.
