"We eat the worst bread because it is made from low-quality wheat," said the Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Naydenov on the bTV program "This Morning".
Naidenov officially admitted that there is a big problem with the quality of bread. He struck the audience, saying: I am 41 years old and I must tell you that once with black bread I remember that they fed the pigs. Black bread since then is better than it is today.
The main ingredient in the bread we put on our table every day is low-quality wheat. And because the manufacturers wanted to "improve" the material for its production, they added a variety of colors, salt, sugar, stabilizers and other "improving" the taste ingredients.
The minister also spoke about the recent introduction of a bread standard. "Bread must be present on our table - the real, essential bread, without additives, improvers and salts," he threatened.
The institution RIPCPH / Regional Inspectorate for Protection and Control of Public Health / is responsible for the standard of bread.
In order to have more centralized monitoring over the ministry, RIPCHP will move to the Ministry of Agriculture, Naidenov added.
In addition, the long-awaited Food Agency, which will monitor food safety throughout the chain, is expected to be launched this week.
