At the very end of November, on the 30th of the month, Orthodox Christians around the world celebrate St. Andrew's Daywho is the brother of the apostle Peter. He is called in the church books of the First Called because he was the first to be called by all the apostles to follow Jesus Christ. The saint is extremely revered among Bulgarians. In the National Calendar, the holiday dedicated to him is known by many names in different parts of the country.

St. Andrew's Day is strictly tied to the change of seasons. In folk beliefs, it symbolizes the beginning of winter, and the rituals associated with its celebration aim to pray for a lighter season and a richer harvest in the spring.

Basically on the table for St. Andrew's Day we have to rely on cereals. The evening before St. Andrew's Day, dishes are prepared from beans, lentils, wheat, bulgur, corn or anything that is sown in the field. Everyone in the house should try them, it is given even to pets. In the morning, some of the cooked beans are thrown into the chimney to make the crops tall.

An important element for the festive table on St. Andrew's Day is the fresh ritual pie. It must be kneaded by the mistress of the house just before the festive dinner. There are no special requirements for the dough in folk beliefs, except to form a cross on top of it. The bread is placed on the table and is broken by the oldest member of the family at the beginning of the meal.

Boiled wheat and millet should also be present on the table. They are seasoned with sugar and cinnamon. For better taste, the custom allows you to add walnuts. The boiled and seasoned beans are placed in a common dish, each of which is then poured from them.

Boiled corn is also an important element. It can be seasoned with butter or salt. In order to keep the tradition, you need to keep a few grains of it to give to the animals in the morning.

Like main dish on St. Andrew's Day stew with beans and bulgur is usually served. For it you need 500 g of beans, 100 g of bulgur, 125 g of butter, 2 dried peppers, 2 carrots, tomato paste, mint, salt.

The beans are boiled with peppers, carrots, tomato paste, mint and salt to taste with more water. Separately, fry the bulgur in butter, then pour into a pan. Pour the boiled beans on it and pour 3 tea cups of broth from the boiled beans. Sprinkle with paprika and bake until fat.

The accepted dessert for the holiday is pumpkin with honey and walnuts.
