The practice of selling drinks with added sugar in European schools is a thing of the past. The decision to ban this activity was taken by European producers, whose goal is to effectively combat childhood obesity.
Overweight children are a difficulty that more and more European countries are facing. Bulgaria is no exception. In our country over 220,000 children have weight problems, and our country ranks fifth in Europe in obesity of the youngest. This is what requires concrete measures to be taken.
Prohibited for sale at school are chips, snacks, fried foods, confectionery, broths, energy drinks or generally speaking - foods that are high in fat and sugar.
Fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, sandwiches and pasta containing milk or vegetable stuffing should be available to children in school buffets. The menu in the school canteens should also offer healthy foods, and once a week to provide children with low-salt dishes, Nova TV reports.
Despite the measures taken to control the products offered in school cafeterias and canteens, some Bulgarians remain pessimistic about the topic and believe that even if the sites do not offer harmful foods and beverages, this will not prevent children from getting them from other places.
