Nearly 19 tons of oranges of dubious quality and 3 tons of fresh cabbage of unknown origin were found, which were imported from Greece and will be returned to our southern neighbor.

The news was announced by engineer Anton Velichkov from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, adding that inspections of imported fruits and vegetables from Greece will continue.

The movement of goods originating in Greece has not intensified. A total of 11 shipments have passed, two of them have been returned - this is not a small percentage, and within two days, said in his statement the BFSA expert.

The inspection aims to detect substandard goods in our markets, which were imported into Bulgaria shortly after the border blockade was lifted.

As of March 2, the control of the sites around the Bulgarian-Greek border has been strengthened.

Mass inspections will continue until the end of April, even on weekends. The BFSA will hold actions at night as well, the director of the Agency announced.

Most signals for delivered low-quality fruits and vegetables or those of dubious origin were received from the stock exchange in Thessaloniki. Therefore, intensified inspections are carried out at the Tower and Ilinden.

Daily inspections are also carried out at the stock exchanges in the villages of Karnalovo and Petrich.

There will also be unannounced checks on the quality and origin of the goods. The area is such that there are a lot of local traders who go to the stock exchange in Thessaloniki and buy lower quality goods, and then it is offered on our stock exchange in Karnalovo, the inspectors told Nova TV.

After Greek farmers lifted the border blockade, the Food Safety Agency expected the home market to be flooded with low-quality fruits and vegetables. For this reason, a series of inspections were launched throughout the country.
