The massive extraordinary inspections of school chairs and buffets, which the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) started at the beginning of the school year, have ended.
3348 kindergartens were inspected unscheduled. According to the data of the Regional Directorates of the BFSA, only 213 prescriptions for elimination of irregularities have been drawn up.
The irregularities found in the course of the extraordinary inspections were mainly related to discrepancies in the building stock.
The BFSA inspectors have also drawn up 22 Acts to establish an administrative violation. The acts were drawn up in connection with identified deficiencies in the requirements of Ordinance № 9.
The Ordinance in question regulates the specific requirements for food safety and quality that can be offered in kindergartens and schools.
This ordinance also regulates the requirements for keeping records on food safety management systems.
There were small gaps in the documentation, as well as isolated cases of food without labeling.
BFSA experts report cases of unsatisfactory hygiene of the sites, as well as improper storage of raw materials and ready meals.
By order of the inspectors, 90 kg of fruits and vegetables, 9 kg of food of animal origin, as well as 185 non-carbonated soft drinks containing preservatives and colors were banned and discarded.
Of all the 3,348 establishments that were inspected, only one student chair was ordered to cease operations due to gross violations.
The BFSA inspectors have given permission for the resumption of the operation of the site after a re-inspection has confirmed that the established violations should be eliminated.
