It has long been clear that there is a vicious practice under the label "Bio-" to stand fake product. Not only do consumers pay a much higher price in the desperate hope of buying a natural product for themselves and their families, they are also deceived by the clever marketing tricks of the market.

Until now, counterfeit organic foods and beverages continue to flood the trade network in the country, said Zhivko Dzhamyarov, who is deputy chairman of the Association of Organic Traders in Bulgaria. The topic of fraudulent and allegedly healthy foods was widely discussed during the conference Marketing in Organic Farming.

The established counterfeit products with the label "Bio-" are not one or two - among them are several types of bread, honey, lyutenitsa, soft drinks and others. Even a brand of toothpaste found an ingredient that was unacceptable for cosmetics.

All these items were sold in the trade network on the diet stands of the stores with an attractively affixed label "Eco-" or "Bio-" without having any certificate for a natural product.

According to Mr. Dzhamyarov, the problem is not only in the delusion that we are buying a clean product, but also in the fact that we pay an unjustifiably higher price for it. The Association of Organic Traders has so far submitted more than 20 alerts to the Food Safety Agency for such products.

As a result, there is a fact that a Bulgarian company has already been fined for offering a soft drink with the inscription "bio", which was not certified, "said Dzhamyarov.

However, the name of the sanctioned producer was not mentioned, and even the Food Agency did not want to name the fraudster on the market. At the moment, the Agency continues the inspections on the signals of the Association of Organic Traders.
