A NSI survey showed that in the last 15 years Bulgarians have reduced their consumption of bread, but the consumption of alcoholic beverages has increased.
From 1999 to 2014, one Bulgarian drank an average of 19.6 liters of alcohol per year, and only last year a person in our country drank an average of 27 liters of alcohol in 12 months.
On the other hand, it reduces the consumption of bread, especially white bread. For the last 15 years, Bulgarians have put an average of 100 loaves of bread a year on their table.
According to the National Statistical Institute, bread consumption has fallen from 150 loaves to 100 loaves a year since 1999.
The same tendency is noticed by the bakers in our country, who blame the nutritionists and the health experts for the lower consumption. According to them, the specialists who blamed white bread for the growing overweight of our nation are responsible for its drastic decline in the markets in our country.
The Federation of Bakers and Confectioners in Bulgaria says that eating 200-250 grams of bread a day is not harmful and is completely normal for our culture.
According to their observations, although Bulgarians have limited their consumption of bread, they often continue to eat cakes, pastries and other confectionery, which, in addition to leading to obesity, are also dangerous to health.
More often in recent years, alcohol has been drunk in our country. The highest consumption was reported in beer, as a Bulgarian drank an average of 74 liters of amber liquid in one year.
More often we put steaks on our table, and the amount with which we increased the meat is 100 grams per year. We also drank more fresh milk during this period.
However, we have rarely bought sausages, and according to experts, the reason for this is the inspections in recent years, which proved that sausages and frankfurters in our country are filled with various shocking ingredients.
It has reduced the consumption of fruits and vegetables by an average of 5 kilograms per year. A slight decrease is also observed in the consumption of yogurt.
