It has been known since ancient times that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In modern times, however, life is so fast-paced that we often miss it - both because we forget it and because we lack time. If you've always wanted to start the day with something to eat but don't have the incentive, read on to find out why the first meal is so important.
Recent studies have found that skipping breakfast is not just one meal less, but a habit that is really harmful. Usually in the absence of an early menu, we catch up later in the day. Most often - just before going to bed. According to scientists, these two habits seriously damage the heart.
The experts came to these conclusions after conducting a study among 113 people with an average age of 60 years, all of whom had a heart attack before the tests. The researchers found that nearly 60% of the sample were missed the first meal of the day, and more than half ate before bed. As many as 41% had both habits.
The conclusion of the experts is that for this group the risk of premature death or a second heart attack due to heart disease is 4 to 5 times higher. And more - skipping breakfast and eating late lead to recurrent heart disease only a month after leaving the hospital, where some of the subjects were treated after their first cardiovascular events.
Although the subjects are over the age of 60, doctors believe that having the first meal of the day is essential for the prevention of heart disease. This means that young people should follow a similar diet.
And what is he? The rule you know from the elders is valid - eat breakfast like a king. Dairy products are a suitable choice; carbohydrates such as wholemeal bread, oatmeal and fruit.
Scientists believe that our breakfast should be between 15% and 35% of the calories we eat during the day. As for late meals, doctors advise not to consume any 2 hours before bedtime.
