Teenagers often prefer junk food. And not only them - many people allow themselves to be pampered with french fries, chips or other unhealthy foods. Sometimes, however, unhealthy eating becomes a dangerous extreme.

Such is the case with A 17-year-old boy from Bristol. For many years he ate only french fries, chips, white bread, sausages. His complaints began at the age of 14 - then research showed that his body did not have enough vitamin B12 - one of the vital vitamins; he also suffers from anemia. Doctors recommend the boy a more complete diet, as well as the missing vitamin in the form of a supplement. However, over the years, his eyesight progressively deteriorated.

Until the moment he loses both him and his hearing forever. In addition to critically low levels of B12, the boy also suffered from a severe deficiency of vitamin D and selenium - all vital components. He also lost most of the minerals in his bones and suffered from malnutrition.

However, his weight was normal, and malnutrition was due to a lack of vital substances - such as vitamins and minerals. The reason - he did not eat any fruits and vegetables, only the foods we listed.

At the moment, the boy practically sees only with his peripheral vision, and it is weak. And the explanation for his diet - the foods he ate - were the only ones with a texture he could tolerate.

The condition is extremely rare, and if caught in time - it is reversible. In this case, however, the 17-year-old teenager never followed the doctor's advice. In addition to such irreversible damage, unhealthy eating leads to a bunch of other problems - heart disease, increased risk of developing cancer or autoimmune diseases, obesity.

Vitamin B12, in addition to the form of a supplement, is also obtained through foods of animal origin - dairy products, eggs, meat, liver. It is important to eat enough fruits and vegetables, because in practice it is from them that our body extracts the necessary vitamins and minerals for proper functioning. We should not exclude any food group from our menu, doctors advise.
