Bread in Slavic culture was essential for wedding and even funeral rites. Like Easter cake, it is a ceremonial bread.

Official and important guests are welcomed with bread, and ordinary people bake them at weddings and baptisms. The bread is served with salt or honey and is fed to the newlyweds. Another distinctive feature of the ceremonial bread is the abundance of decorations, and each detail has a symbolic meaning.

This bread must be round, dedicated to the God of the sun. It is very important to rise. The higher the bread, the more prosperity is expected.

According to legend, the woman who kneads the dough bakes and decorates the ritual bread, conveys part of his destiny. Therefore, only special women should perform this activity. They must be happily married and have children.

For example, if you put a piece of your soul in the bread, it can affect the fate of the newlyweds. Therefore, the process of kneading dough and baking was accompanied by ritual songs and prayers. Maybe today you can do without it, but decorating the cake remains an important step.

Remember that this bread is ritual. That's why you have to approach its decor in a different way. It is not the imagination that matters here, but the knowledge of the symbolic meaning of certain elements. The main decoration should be placed strictly in the center of the cake.

Floral ornaments are placed around it. As a rule, this is a symbol of a long-term relationship: cereals (fertility, which in the wedding cake is identified with many children), flowers and leaves (prosperity) doves and stars (happiness and loyalty).

You can probably look more modern on the decoration of the bread and decorate its surface with wedding rings, swans, figures of the bride and groom, but you can stay true to tradition.

To decorate the cake you can separate part of the dough from which you will bake the bread. Mix the dough with more flour to make it harder so that the shapes do not spill and merge with the base, and the details will become barely noticeable.

Therefore, unleavened baking dough is used for decoration. In this case, the details of the decor will be more embossed, convex and will retain their clear outlines.

In order not to blur the details of the decor, but to remain embossed, they should not be attached to the bread immediately before baking, but 15-20 minutes before it is ready. The exceptions are the braids from the bread dough.

15-20 minutes before it is ready, take the bread out of the oven. You have to work very fast. After all, hypothermia of an unbaked product can cause the dough to fall out.

Coat the bread with sugar syrup or whipped egg white and attach the decorations to this culinary glue. Return the bread to the oven and bake until fully cooked. The bread is served on an embroidered towel, and the best is a combination of embroidery and decoration.

For dough for bread decoration use the following recipe: 0. 5 tsp. water, 0. 5 tsp. salt and 1. 5 tsp. flour.

From the ingredients, knead a soft dough (like plasticine), place the dough in a plastic bag and place in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes, where it should stand before use.
