One of the most hated activities of every housewife is washing dishes. Of course, after the advent of dishwashers, many people got rid of this obligation.
For some, it has dropped to the point where they forget how to wash in the old-fashioned way - by hand. While this may not apply in full force to the Bulgarian hosts, in some places in Europe it is a real problem.
Recently, the British Institute for Good Household Services even published instructions on how to wash dishes properly by hand. The recommendations are a checklist of several steps on how and in what sequence to take action on washing dishes.
No kidding, the first tip is to put on rubber gloves and get a dirty plate. Then set the water - not too hot so as not to scald, not too cold so as not to stiffen your hands, and how the dish should be washed not only on the inside but also on the outside.
However, there are some useful tips among all the rather ridiculous ones. For example, the British advise to always start washing the glasses first. Only after they are clean, do the dishes, and then wash the cutlery. Last in this series should be the largest dishes, those for serving and cooking such as pans, trays and bowls.
Extreme attention is paid to the advice to wipe dishes and trays of food residues before washing at all, and if they can not be removed, the dishes should be soaked.
If the food is burnt, soak in warm soapy water or lemon juice, vinegar and a little baking soda to remove residue. Another recommendation is to arrange the dishes on the dryer from the largest to the smallest or to dry them directly with a towel and put them in the cupboard.
The last tip in the manual is that after you finish washing, leave the sponge in the microwave for 30 seconds to kill any germs.
