A chain of fast food restaurants is threatened with a hefty fine because it deceives its customers that it puts yellow cheese in the sandwiches it offers, the Consumer Protection Commission announced.
After an on-site inspection, it turned out that the sandwiches, which on the illuminated board and on the window of the site were announced as sandwiches with yellow cheese, were in fact a substitute for it - melted cheese.
The truth came out when experts from the Consumer Protection Commission checked the invoices of the producers of the product in question.
It turned out that the yellow cheese, according to documents, was melted cheese in triangular pieces. This was written both in the delivery invoice and on the packaging itself.
According to the experts, this is clearly a discrepancy between the type of product specified by the manufacturer and its presentation by the fast food chain Subway.
The opinion of the Consumer Protection Commission is that incorrect information in advertising materials about the type of product used in the sandwiches, as well as some of its ingredients, can mislead consumers and this may affect their purchasing decisions.
According to the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), the violation for such an offense is a fine of up to BGN 30,000.
Diana Raykova, Subway's Business Development Manager, told Offnews that the ban on the use of the name yellow cheese, imposed by the Consumer Protection Commission, was imposed two weeks ago.
The sandwich chain no longer offers yellow cheese in its restaurants, but melted cheese. The corrections are made both in the boards in the restaurants and on the company's website.
