For tea, for spice, as a remedy for various diseases or for a general positive effect on the body and soul, herbs are an integral part of Bulgarian culture. There are several rules in their collection that everyone must follow for their own safety. Here they are:

It is forbidden to pick plants on the territory of the protected parks. You should also not touch herbs that are protected by law. Only in this way will the balance and diversity in nature be preserved.

- Herbs do not pluck. They are collected with scissors. The flowers can be torn off carefully without being crushed or pressed. They are collected in a basket or tied in a bouquet or bundle. Thus they are expected to dry;

- You should never pluck all the herbs in a certain area. Do not uproot them or break branches. Tear off only the part you need. You must leave fresh stalks, healthy roots and seeds. Only then the next time you decide to pick again, you will be able to find a new crop of this herb in the same place;

- When you reach for the herb, make sure that there is no animal on it that can crawl on you and bite you;

- Herbs, with few exceptions, are harvested only in sunny and dry weather. It is best to do this in the morning, after the dew has risen. Plants that are harvested in wet weather turn black or quickly steam and mold during the drying process;

- Always separate herbs that contain poisonous substances from others. Never mix colors during the picking process;

- Do not pick up from places near busy roads. There, the plants are full of harmful substances from cars, which dull their useful properties;

- Do not take large amounts of herbs. Soon after their detachment, their properties and qualities decrease, and in some cases a longer storage period leads to their complete disappearance;

- Always dry the herbs in the shade, in a dry and ventilated place. Do not store them in plastic bags and sacks. In them they are boiled, blackened and rotted;

- When the herbs are completely dry, paper bags or jars are stored. It is good that they are inscribed, because we often forget what we store;

- Always keep herbs in the darkest possible place. Light leads to loss of properties and rapid darkening.
