In diseases of the thyroid gland, a certain diet must be followed. The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland that produces three hormones - thyroxine, triiodothyronine and calcitonin.

The first two hormones control the body's metabolism, as well as the processes of growth and development of tissues and organs. The hormone calcitonin is responsible for the metabolism of calcium in the body and regulates bone mass.

Both excessive and insufficient hormonal activity of the thyroid gland causes various diseases. Hormone levels are directly related to the condition of thyroid tissue.

Excessive hormonal activity is called hyperthyroidism or thyrotoxicosis. Deficiency of thyroid hormones is called hypothyroidism.
