There is a danger that unsafe eggs for sale will be sold in Bulgaria before the Easter holidays, the chairman of the Union of Poultry Breeders Dr. Dimitar Belorechkov told BNR.
A signal has also been submitted to the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and inspections are pending.
According to Belorechkov, there is a risk with eggs that are imported in bulk to Bulgarian markets. They are more dangerous because their shelf life can be easily replaced when repackaged.
Most of these products are imported in pallets, not boxes, the expert explains. The Union of Poultry Breeders supports the words of its chairman.
Dr. Belorechkov warns that dangerous eggs are not directed to domestic producers after import, but go directly to egg warehouses. And in these warehouses the control is too low.
The prices of foreign eggs are neither higher nor lower than those of Bulgarian ones. However, to make sure that you are buying a Bulgarian product, make sure that the label on the package is in Bulgarian.
Belorechkov pointed out that the products in domestic production come from humanely raised hens. He added that the final value of the eggs depends on the chains and, as in other industries, there is a problem with low purchase prices.
Currently, the prices of one egg in our country range between 12 and 18 stotinki, and their shelf life is 28 days. According to the specialist, no price increase is expected before Easter.
Egg paints are also not expected to change in prices compared to last year. The set of 6 colors in capsules can be found for 44 stotinki, and the cheapest are the powder paints, which are sold for 29 stotinki for 4 colors.
More expensive are pearl dyes, which are traded for between BGN 2.79 and BGN 3.35.
