The Regional Directorate for Food Safety (RFSD) in the city of Dobrich prevented the sale in the commercial network of more than 8000 unfit eggs.
During a routine inspection, inspectors from the directorate found an unregistered farm for raising chickens and collecting eggs.
The building where the birds and unmarked eggs were found was not registered as a hen farm. According to Ordinance №1 of 9 January 2008, owners of livestock farms and producers who keep more than 50 hens are obliged to mark the obtained eggs with the producer code.
The marking includes the veterinary registration code of the site according to art. 11, para 3 of Ordinance №25 of 2005, the method of cultivation, the initials BG, the code of the district and a three-digit serial number, which the producer receives when entering it in the registers of the regional food safety directorates (RFSD).
The experts in the RFSD in Dobrich have imposed a ban on the discovered birds, which prohibits their movement. The more than 8000 pieces found at the time of the inspection. eggs are sent for destruction to the slaughterhouse.
The eggs, which the banned hens continue to lay every day, are sent for destruction under the direct control of an employee of the RFSD in Dobrich.
The owners of the unregistered farm have received an act establishing an administrative violation. The investigation into the case continues.
The competent authorities are still unable to say how long the unregistered egg farm has been in operation and how many of these eggs have been sold commercially.
As the Easter holidays approach, inspectors from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) are expected to increase the number of inspections for unmarked dangerous eggs in the trade network.
