Authorities in Russia are considering raising the retail price of vodka from 185 rubles per bottle to 230 rubles. The goal of higher prices is to reduce the sale of counterfeit alcohol in Russia.

The discussion is scheduled for Thursday, January 28, and the scales are currently tending to raise prices.

Kommersant writes that the Federal Antimonopoly Service agrees to increase the price of vodka after reviewing the calculations of producers.

The price of 230 rubles for a bottle of 0.5 liters is made, collecting the price of vodka - 35 rubles, excise duty - 100 rubles, factory work - 5 rubles, VAT - 25 rubles, logistics costs - 5 rubles and markup - 60 rubles.

At the same time, Siberian Alcohol Group CEO Igor Saveleev stressed that these figures will help regional vodka plants to avoid losses.

In February last year, it was also discussed whether to raise the price of vodka to 220 rubles for a half-liter bottle by raising the excise tax on alcohol. In the end, however, it was decided to keep the old price of 185 rubles.

A bottle of vodka in Russia still sells for 185 rubles, which is equivalent to 2.34 euros. Vodka reached this value a few years ago, after an ordinance ordered the retail price to be reduced from 199 rubles to 185 rubles.

In Russia, they were dissatisfied with the high prices, and production had fallen by 22% in just one calendar year. At that time, only the trade mark-ups on alcohol changed.

Russians are one of the most drinking nations in the world, and according to a study conducted in 2013, they rank third in alcohol consumption, and their favorite drink is vodka.
