Although it is a popular food in Bulgaria relatively recently, studies on the foodpanda platform show that our people are increasingly ordering sushi for home. And unlike the Hungarians and Romanians, sushi in our country is ordered mainly on weekends.
The most sought after are the combo menus, and after the rice-fish delicacy, the Bulgarians most often order pizza and Chinese food.
The word sushi first mentioned in a Chinese dictionary from the second century. It is believed that China is the homeland of the dish and was originally prepared as a technology for canning salted fish through rice.
After being caught and cleaned, the fish was placed in crates between layers of salt and rice. This was followed by pressing with stones and covering with a lid. Thus, the fish could be stored and consumed for another year.
The process is called sushi, which means it is sour or sour.
In the VII-VIII century it was transferred to Japan and from there it was popularized all over the world. Initially, the Japanese discarded rice and ate only salted fish, but gradually began to eat it.
When sushi technology was transferred to Japan, it changed according to Japanese culture and food views. Japanese cuisine strives for techniques as close to nature as possible, and following this principle, the Japanese believed that fish should be eaten raw. This is how the image of sushi known today came into being.
Different sushi recipes differ from each other in the variety of stuffing, spices, shell and method of preparation.
Maki sushi (roll sushi) is the classic and most popular type of sushi. Nigiri is the oldest type of sushi and is made from small portions of rice covered with a layer of fish and the Japanese omega tamago.
Oshi-sushi or pressed sushi is prepared by placing marinated rice, boiled or smoked fish in a special dish, then pressing and cutting into rings. Sashimi is the favorite sushi of the Japanese, which is made only from raw fish.
Sushi can be garnished with soy sauce, wasabi or marinated Gary, known as Japanese ginger.
