With its low caloric content, but rich in B vitamins, vitamin C, pro-vitamin A, fiber, iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and others. broccoli is one of the most useful vegetables to eat.

In its natural form, it appears on the markets in late autumn, but unfortunately it must be consumed immediately, because it spoils quickly. That's why it's good to know how you can store it for a longer time:

Store broccoli in the refrigerator

In the best case, it is good to consume broccoli immediately after buying it, but if your plans change, unpack it and let it breathe without washing it.

An even better option is to lightly dry it with kitchen paper or even wrap it in it, but without suffocating it. So it will last in the refrigerator for 2-3 days without any problems, and if it was really fresh for up to 5 days.

Store frozen broccoli in the freezer

This way you will be able to store the broccoli for up to about 1 year, but you will lose a small part of its valuable ingredients. To freeze it, however, you must first blanch it. This is done by cleaning it well, separating it into roses and washing it.

Then put it in boiling and slightly salted water for 3-4 minutes and immediately pour cold water over it to stop its heat treatment. Drain it well and pack it in plastic bags. It is best to divide it into portions so that for each dish that you usually prepare with broccoli, you have the required amount. Once thawed, the broccoli is not re-frozen.

Storage of broccoli by canning

In this case, it's about closing the broccoli in jars. There are a variety of recipes to choose from, but generally speaking, it is preserved in the same way that you can preserve cauliflower. Here's a suggestion, though, if you don't have time to look for the information you need:

Broccoli pickle

Necessary products: 2 large heads of broccoli, 600 g carrots, 1 head of garlic, a few stalks of celery, salt, vinegar and aspirin.

Method of preparation: Broccoli is divided into roses and washed. Peel a squash, grate it and slice it. Divide the garlic into cloves, peel and cut each clove in half. Start arranging the broccoli tightly in 800 ml jars and put some carrots, garlic and celery between the rows.

After each jar is filled, fill it with vinegar to its bottom edge, add 1 aspirin and 1 tbsp salt without the top of each jar. Fill the jars with boiling water, close them and keep them upside down until completely cooled.
