Environmental issues are not only fashionable in the last decade. They are also a reliable way to constantly focus on environmental Protection and the challenges posed to human society by growing environmental problems.
The struggle to restore the purity of nature, to prevent an ecological catastrophe that really hangs over the planet, gives birth to all sorts of ideas. Some of them are really bizarre, but their authors expect them to be efficient enough.
One such idea was proposed by students from the University of Oxford, Great Britain. At its weekly meeting, the student union voted by a large majority on the somewhat unexpected proposal - from the menu on campus to remove the red meat.
The students' union at the famous university consists of an impressive 22,000 members. However, this number is not enough to give him the power to change the general rules that apply to all students at a famous university. This does not prevent students from deciding to contact the management of the institution to accept the change and to remove red meat from student chairs.
What do young people expect as a result of introducing such a measure?
According to them, this will limit the harmful effects of meat production on the environment. This, in turn, will have a beneficial effect on climate change. Enthusiasts among the student community believe that the ban on the production of beef and lamb will help protect the environment by 2030. They believe that their proposal is both realistic and effective if implemented.
This idea is disapproved of by the affected country - these are the breeders in the country. A representative of the British Livestock Farming Organization expressed disapproval and regret of this student decision, as breeders are convinced that they produce the best red meat in the world, respecting environmental and ethical standards.
They offer students a softer approach - to buy meat, locally produced. In this way, they will have freedom of choice, because no one should be denied the right to eat whatever he wants and the environment will not be harmed.
What the students' response will be remains to be seen.
