The risk of cardiovascular disease increases by almost 10 percent if we eat even just twice a week pork or beef red meat. The statement of a group of American scientists was published recently by the British tabloid Daily Mail.
To provide a scientific basis for the sad finding for meat lovers, scientists from the team of Professor Norina Allen of Northwestern University studied the eating habits and health records of about 30,000 people with an average age of 53 years.
The study showed the even more frightening truth that more dangerous than red meat are processed meats in the form of sausages such as traditional sausages, pork ham, sausages, pastrami.
Only fish is out of the category of hazardous meats. Unfortunately, however, a study of the eating habits of the participants in the study showed that it is largely absent from the menu of the average person.
The news contrasts sharply with older research published in 2018 and 2019, which claims that the link between meat consumption and cardiovascular disease is negligibly weak.
According to Norina Allen's team, a 115-gram dish is considered a portion of red meat. Two such servings per week lead to a 3% risk of premature death. As for the processed meat, one portion included in the study consists of two sausages or one sausage for a delicious hot dog.
According to the data common consumption of red meat and processed meats increase bad cholesterol and increase the risk of clogging vital blood vessels. Scientists believe that along with obesity, overeating is one of the leading causes of high cardiovascular disease. The latter are also recognized as the number one killer worldwide, significantly ahead of cancer and diabetes.
However, scientists reassure that they should not completely stop eating red meat. However, reduce it by at least 50 percent or up to once a week. On the other hand, they advise to completely forget about processed meats. The menu should include more white meat and especially fish because the harm of red meat are not to be underestimated.
