Inspections show that before the holiday a lamb shoulder from New Zealand will be sold for BGN 12.99 per kilogram.

The native farmers report that although Bulgarian meat is better for consumption, our people prefer to buy Romanian lamb for the holiday because of its low prices.

Meat from our northern neighbor comes at prices from 4 to 4.50 levs per kilogram, which makes it the most preferred product, as Bulgarian producers offer live lamb at prices around 5.50 levs per kilogram.

In recent years, state policy in Romania has strongly supported livestock farming in the country, which has motivated Romanian farmers to increase their herds.

The industry warns you to be careful with the lamb you buy for the holiday, whether it is Bulgarian or imported.

If you want to eat fresh lamb, pay attention to whether there is blood in the product you buy - meat that has not been in the freezer for a long time always bleeds.

The Food Agency says that frozen meat loses the elasticity that fresh meat has. Therefore, when you press it with your finger, a hole remains in it, and the fresh one returns to its original form.

Inspectors warn for the upcoming holiday to buy meat only from regulated slaughterhouses to make sure that the product has been inspected by experts.

The meat you buy must be stamped with an oval stamp showing the veterinary registration number of the establishment and the letters EC.

The health mark must be affixed in such a way that, if cut in halves or quarters, each piece bears a stamp.
