Sushi can be prepared in all shapes and variations. To prepare it, you need several basic basic products, as well as the necessary knowledge.
The most important thing when making sushi is choosing the right products. Here they are:
Sushi rice (Sushi Rice) - Sushi-meshi rice is specially made from white rice, cooked and flavored with a mixture of rice vinegar, sugar, salt, kombu (special seaweed) and sometimes sake (weak Japanese brandy).
This late-grain Japanese rice has the most important quality - stickiness. It should be neither too sticky nor too dry. Used immediately after boiling and cooling.
Nori - This is a type of Japanese algae cultivated years ago in Japanese ports. It was scraped from the docks, spread on leaves and dried in the sun. The resulting leaves were lightly toasted. Today, these leaves have a standard size of 18 cm by 21 cm. High quality nori are thick, smooth, black and shiny and have no holes in them. They are used for wrapping sushi.
Toppings and fillings - A very important element where you can choose between:
Fish - tuna, salmon, oily fish, sardines and snapper;
Vegetables - avocado, cucumber, carrots and asparagus;
Red meat - beef;
Seafood - squid, octopus, shrimp and caviar;
Other fillings - Japanese omelet.
Wasabi - It is a spicy paste made from the crushed root of the wasabi plant. The real wasabi - hon-wasabi, is called Wasabi japonica. It has an antiseptic effect and can reduce the risk of food poisoning. Outside of Japan, however, the imitation of wasabi - seiyo-wasabi - is very popular. It is prepared from horseradish and mustard powder and turns green. Wasabi is a suitable sauce to garnish ready-made sushi.
Soy sauce (Soy Sauce) - Another addition to sushi is Chinese dark and light soy sauce. Both types are purified and light.
Ginger (Gari) - This sweet and pickled ginger in Japanese cuisine is added mostly to various types of seafood to neutralize the taste. It gives fullness to the taste sensations, while at the same time supporting the digestive process.
Comez (Komezu). This is rice vinegar, which has an extremely mild taste. Added to sushi, it helps preserve the natural color of vegetables and eliminate their bitter taste.
Sake (Sake) - Rice brandy is the perfect company for sushi. If you have decided to venture into the depths of this culture, then do it to the end. This brandy has many subspecies, ranging from very sweet to very bitter. It is served both hot and cold - depending on preferences, quality and season.
