Many, many years ago the village of Radilovo bore the sonorous name Voynovo. The fate of its inhabitants was severe. The village was inhabited mainly by Thracians from the Bessi tribe, as well as by Slavs from the Dragovichi tribe.
People lived in understanding, but a terrible tragedy loomed over the village of Voynovo. It was difficult for the women from the village to conceive, and whoever managed to conceive gave birth to stillborn children.
Grief pressed on people's hearts. Every day the women gathered and prayed for help to the Thracian goddess of fertility Bendida. Bendida's heart took pity on her and she appeared in the dream of one of the women.
"They will conceive the women, I will help them," the goddess promised in the dream of the Radulov woman, "but when the children are born, you will prepare a cache (porridge), from which you will distribute to everyone in the village."
The goddess ordered the best wheat grain to be gathered. Grind the well-ripened grain between large stones and then wash it 9 times until it becomes clear as a tear. Pregnant bride to bring silent water and boil it in a large bowl, then add the ground wheat and stir.
To confuse and call "To grow strong and industrious", "To be with a pure soul like a grain". When the child grows up, before his wedding to prepare again keshkek and call it for the health of his family, and then of his children.
The woman told everyone and everyone about her prophetic dream and vowed to prepare the mythical cache (keshkek) as Bendida had instructed. Did the women sacrifice Bendida as a token of gratitude.
The promise of the goddess came true. The women became pregnant, and the first babies were born - big, healthy children. The women from the village of Voynovo rolled up their sleeves and mixed up the divine keshkek porridge, which from that day on has become a symbol of new life.
In the village of Radilovo, the recipe for keshkek is passed down from generation to generation. Before each wedding and after each birth it must be prepared and distributed to all.
Here is the recipe, a symbol of health and life:
