A characteristic feature of Belarusian cuisine, which distinguishes it from other Slavic, is the almost complete absence of dairy products on the table. But this does not mean that dairy components are not used there at all - simply no one consumes them in pure form, but as an ingredient in more complex dishes.

All types of dairy components - yogurt, cottage cheese, whey, butter, cheese and sour cream are used as a mandatory addition to many dishes, including various types of soups with noodles and vegetables, cereals and desserts.

Particular attention should be paid to "mokanka" - a separate plate containing cottage cheese, cream, milk and buttermilk, which is used as a cold appetizer or as a topping for pancakes.

Popular drinks include Russian vodka and yeast. Yeast is a type of very low-alcohol beverage made from either black bread or rye flour that ferments. It can be combined with chopped vegetables to make a cold soup called okroshka.

Largest share in Belarusian cuisine occupy potato dishes. Potatoes are prepared in all sorts of ways - boiled, stewed, fried, baked. Soups, salads, pies are prepared from them. Especially famous are the dishes - Grandma, Draniki, Kapitka.
