The latest study by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency shows that out of 136 cheese samples, only 7 of them contained vegetable fats that were used illegally.

The BFSA's research for the dairy products offered in our country lasted about 6 months, and the 7 non-compliant samples were made by 4 producers.

Violators have been issued acts and will be subject to frequent inspections in the future.

BFSA inspectors checked 274 samples of dairy products taken since the beginning of May. The cheese was checked in the neighborhood shops, the big supermarkets and the dairy enterprises in the country.

205 samples were taken from wholesalers, 41 samples from food warehouses, 10 samples from kindergartens, and 1 sample from public catering establishments.

A total of 136 samples of cheese, 75 samples of yellow cheese, 24 samples of butter, 33 samples of yoghurt, 5 samples of cottage cheese, one sample of fresh milk and kefir were tested in the laboratory.

235 enterprises in the country were also studied, as 179 of them are oriented entirely in the dairy industry, and 56 have also produced imitation dairy products.

The final results showed that only 2.6% of producers misled consumers by offering a plant product disguised as dairy.

Given the results of previous studies showing that non-dairy fat products dominated the market, the BFSA claims that frequent inspections have had a disciplinary effect on producers.

Earlier in the year, Active Consumers surveyed 36 brands of cheese, only 8 of which were made from milk.
