Sichuan pepper is a well-known spice coming from the good old East. Its name comes from Sichuan Province in China, which is considered the birthplace of the spice. Sichuan pepper is quite famous in the countries of the East and is used in both Japan and India.
Despite its name, it is not a pepper and has nothing to do with black or white pepper. In fact, the spice is made from the fruit of a prickly plant (shrub) that grows in Sichuan Province in China, which is a citrus fruit.
The only edible part of it is the inside of the shell. As it is made from citrus fruit, its taste is quite strange and special / it is not spicy, but rather sweet /, and it does not look like pepper at all.
From Sichuan pepper in China, candies and other various sweets are made, which are quite popular in the most populous country.
The fruits are small, reddish-brown, and are sold only after they are dried.
In China, it is worshiped and there is even a saying about Sichuan pepper, saying - China is the home of good food, and Sichuan is the home of good repairs. It is named pepper because of the numbing effect it has on the tongue.
Sichuan pepper goes well with fish, pork, chicken and vegetables. Used in combination with ginger and anise.
