More than 90% of children and adolescents in the United States consume large amounts of salt, according to the US Centers for Disease Prevention and Control. This can lead to many health problems - it is possible to develop high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, etc., according to AFP and Reuters, citing official data from the centers.

To reduce the risk of disease, the US Food and Drug Administration says urgent action needs to be taken. The use of salt in the food industry must be limited.

Children between the ages of 6 and 18 consume an average of 3,280 mg of salt, and the US Centers for Disease Prevention and Control explains that this is more than acceptable. Health authorities recommend that the maximum amount of salt per day be no more than 2300 mg.

The authors of the study warn that the authorities should take this problem seriously enough. If left unchecked, children will die prematurely in a few years because they will suffer from cardiovascular disease at a very young age.

According to the health authorities, the problem does not lie in the complicated salt on the table at home. Previous tests of this claim show that most salt is contained in industrial foods and dishes that are offered in fast food chains.

Statistics show that from 2009 to 2010, 43 per 100 of the salt eaten by children between the ages of 6 and 18 was consumed with products such as pizza, sausages, Mexican dishes, pasta, salami and more.

Preparing hot food at home is a better option for children than to eat in restaurants around the house. This will gradually reduce the amount of salt and parents will be able to maintain the health of their children for a much longer time.

Consumption of too much salt a year kills 1.6 million people worldwide. Most of these people suffer from cardiovascular disease.
