The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has launched inspections to establish food products in which a double standard is practiced.
The study is part of the Visegrad Four's campaign to find out if there is a difference in the goods of the same company, which exports products to Eastern Europe and Western Europe.
The Visegrad Four, which includes the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland, say there is a difference in the content and ingredients of food produced for Eastern European countries and food produced for Germany, France and Belgium.
The competent authorities in the countries concerned have undertaken to carry out inspections and to check that a product of the same brand has a different quality in different countries of the European Union.
If a difference is found, it does not mean that the food product is dangerous for consumers, but that a double standard is practiced, which is unacceptable according to EU norms.
In order to compare food quality, detailed monitoring is needed, in which the different products of the same brand will be compared first.
The Food Agency in Bulgaria is still specifying the list of products that will be analyzed. The full study will be performed in accredited laboratories in Bulgaria and the EU.
During the inspections, the BFSA inspectors will also monitor whether the food is labeled correctly and whether the actual content corresponds to what is written.
The ultimate goal is to stop the dual standard between the different Member States of the European Union and not to have different ones in the food of the same brand.
