The Food Safety Agency together with the Ministry of Economy is preparing a third inspection, which should establish the degree of double standard in food in our country and in Western Europe.
BFSA experts will take samples of products offered in Bulgarian supermarkets and samples of the same food brands, but sold in Western Europe. This is the third inspection by the Food Agency to establish a double standard for products in Europe.
The same inspections are being carried out in other Eastern European countries, Lubomir Kulinski, head of the Food Control Directorate, told Bulgarian National Television.
The first study in June last year found a difference between the labels of the same products. Tests have shown that 8 out of 31 products differ significantly in the description of the ingredients used.
It has also been proven that 9 of the tested products in our markets are sold at a higher price than in Italy, France and Switzerland.
The second study on the double standard in food was conducted in August. Laboratory analysis was performed on the samples taken and even more significant differences were found.
It turned out that in 9 out of 56 samples the products sold in Bulgaria registered a higher amount of used dyes and preservatives. This year's inspection aims to determine whether this trend continues.
Meanwhile, a conference on Healthy Future for Europe is being held at the National Palace of Culture, which will emphasize the importance of healthy eating and limiting products containing preservatives and colorants.
