After an inspection of 1,100 ovens, shops and bakeries by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, they are adamant that Bulgarian bread is high quality and without banned additives.
Supermarkets where bread and confectionery are baked were also inspected. The aim was to determine whether the bread offered complied with food quality legislation.
It was monitored for registration under the Food Act, the necessary documentation for the types of bread produced, safety, as well as whether unauthorized and undescribed ingredients are added to the label.
The analysis has shown that the produced breads use traditional wheat flour of several types - white type 500, Dobrudja type 750, types type 1150, wholemeal type 1850 and corn flour.
The different types of bread and bakery products are labeled in accordance with the requirements of European and national legislation, the labels state all the ingredients used, including food additives - leavening agents, antioxidants, acid regulators and preservatives.
After the inspections, 5 acts for administrative violation were drawn up, 2 of which were for sale of expired raw materials. 67 prescriptions for discrepancies were also issued.
Most of the prescriptions are issued to improve hygiene in the workplace and for proper labeling, which indicates the allergens in the composition of bread.
