Every year on December 23 in the Mexican city of Oaxaca celebrate an unusual festival, which organizes a competition of radish objects - La Fiesta de Los Rabanos. The central square of the city on this day is full of stalls selling only radishes. Beautiful girls dance among them.
Everywhere they offer exquisite figurines made of radishes - from small figures of plants and animals to whole compositions depicting biblical scenes or Indian legends. This unusual holiday dates back to the middle of the 19th century, when the Spaniards first brought useful vegetables to Mexico.
Radishes are very useful for people who have problems with overweight, heart and blood vessels. They protect against atherosclerosis and improve the digestive process. They are contraindicated in people with ulcers, as well as with diseases of the stomach, colitis, liver and kidney diseases.
During the holiday in Mexico there is a competition for the thickest, longest, roundest and most elegant radish. All radishes are grown on state land, and then, just before the festival, they are distributed to people so that they can realize their wildest fantasies and try to win one of the competitions. Hundreds of fireworks erupted after the awards ceremony.
During the radish festival, special buns soaked in syrup, also known as "bunuelos", are also sold. They are sold in clay plates.
After eating the sweet delicacy, you should throw the plate over your shoulder. The more pieces left behind, the better next year will be.
