The wholesale price of cherries has dropped by almost 50 percent and from the new week their weight will be traded for BGN 3.83, according to the data of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets.
This is a decrease of 42% compared to the previous week, experts say. At the beginning of the season, cherries were sold at insane prices of 40 to 60 levs per kilogram, and the excuse was that the weather conditions in winter and early spring ruined much of the harvest.
The frost affected the Kyustendil cherries the most. Many growers have announced that they will not offer cherries this year.
However, imports from abroad will have a positive effect on the seasonal fruit market. The price per kilogram of cherries and a kilogram of strawberries is almost equal. The Bulgarian strawberries are sold wholesale for BGN 3.24, and the imported ones - for BGN 3.40.
A kilogram of apples in bulk has reached BGN 1.40, and a kilogram of carrots sells for BGN 1.06.
Cabbage has fallen in price by 6.3% and is available on the stock exchanges for BGN 0.74 per kilogram. The price of lettuce also decreased by 6.8% and sold for BGN 0.41 per piece. Radishes also fell in price by 6.1%.
In the last week the prices of potatoes have risen by 1.2%, which is equal to BGN 0.84 per kilogram wholesale. However, fresh potatoes fell in price by 21.5%.
Cow's cheese, oil and chicken are also higher than last week. Vitosha yellow cheese, ripe beans, 500 flour, sugar and eggs remain unchanged.
