The winter season starts this year with high vegetable prices. The data of DKSBT show that the highest increase was registered in cucumbers.
The wholesale prices per kilogram of cucumbers is BGN 1.10, which is a jump of 22% compared to their values last month. The prices of cabbage have also gone up, as a kilo of it is now available for BGN 0.34 wholesale.
An increase in the values was also registered for tomatoes, which are traded wholesale for BGN 0.86 per kilogram. The most expensive, however, is the okra, whose price is 5 leva per kilogram.
In some places, retail vegetable prices have reached record highs. At the Nadezhda and Lyulin markets, a kilo of pink tomatoes is sold for BGN 3, an inspection by Novinar shows.
Cheaper tomatoes can be found at the Women's Market, where a kilo of pink tomatoes sells for BGN 1.20, and the prices of red tomatoes do not exceed BGN 1.
At the vegetable market in Druzhba, vegetables can be found at lower prices, but also at lower quality.
The prices per liter of oil are lower, which can be found at BGN 1.70. Peppers are also at promotional prices, which in many places are traded for BGN 0.90 per kilogram, but in most cases they are BGN 1.30-1.40 per kilogram for the green gate and about BGN 2 for the red one. Carrots this year sell for about 0.82 cents per kilogram.
Sets of caps and jars in most supermarkets cost between 1.80 and 4 levs. The cassettes for jars are sold for about 5 leva, and a 1000W pepper pot is 25 leva.
Rough calculations show that 100 jars of homemade kyopoolu will cost the hosts about 30 leva, and the peak of pickles is yet to come, and prices are expected to continue to rise.
It will be cheaper if, instead of preparing the winter food yourself, you buy it from the store. However, many housewives prefer home production despite the higher prices, as this is the only way they are sure that they are eating quality and tastier pickles or lyutenitsa.
