It turns out that imported applesthat are sold in our country are full of pesticides. The data show that more than 50 different pesticides were found in soil and water samples taken for analysis in April this year. from apple orchards in 12 countries of the European Community.

More worrying is the fact that nearly 70 percent of the identified compounds are very highly toxic to humans and animals. At least one pesticide is present in 78 percent of soil and 72 percent of water samples.

The data from the Analysis of pesticides in European apple orchards has been disseminated in Bulgaria by Greenpeace-Bulgaria, informs Monitor.

One of the important findings of the experts who took and studied the samples is that there are actually several chemicals that are used in the process of growing apples and which then remain in the soil, polluting ecosystems.

The highest number of chemical compounds is found in soil samples in Italy, Belgium and France.

High pesticide content in water samples was found in Poland, Slovakia and Italy, where 13 pesticides from 3 samples, 12 pesticides from 3 samples and 10 pesticides from 2 samples were registered, respectively.

A total of 38 different chemicals were found in the aqueous samples, eight of which were extremely toxic to aquatic organisms.

The worse news is that eight of the pesticides found in almost all samples are very poisonous to bees.

The analysis of the organization shows another worrying fact - seven of the pesticides detected in the samples are currently not authorized for use in the EU and can be applied only after obtaining extraordinary permits from all Member States of the Community.

Bulgaria has not participated in the spring survey of the organization, according to the home office of the environmental organization. Samples from the soils and waters of the Bulgarian apple orchards will be taken in early autumn, and later the results will be exported.

Until then, it may be best to bet on Bulgarian apples, which traditionally occupy the largest relative share of total fruit production - 32 percent.

And while you are waiting for the Bulgarian apples to appear on the markets in our country, you can eat the seasonal cherries, which are also among the most produced fruits in our country.

Currently, the trade network in our country is dominated by apples produced in Poland, Italy, Belgium, Hungary and other countries.
