The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has launched inspections of the food on offer before the Christmas and New Year holidays. And during the holidays themselves there will be teams on duty.

Food production and trade sites, wholesale warehouses, catering establishments, markets and retail exchanges will be inspected.

The Agency will monitor the origin, terms and conditions of storage of food products. It will also be checked whether the sites are registered under the Food Act and whether the food is labeled correctly.

The purpose of the inspections is to ensure food safety before Christmas and New Year by preventing the abuse of unscrupulous producers and traders.

In September alone this year, the Agency carried out 13,000 inspections, followed by 142 acts and 713 prescriptions. 473.27 kilograms of food were diverted for destruction.

The most commonly identified product deficiencies were expired, missing labels and unclear origin. The activity of 6 enterprises was suspended.
